Refugees Receive Emergency Aid Previous Image Next Image February 2001- It is a difficult and sad task to distribute a few hundred blankets among tens of thousands of cold refugees. The Jalozai security personnel had closed the gate to the quilt distribution center, allowing only the refugees that had a card to enter. At first, RAWA distributed the quilts to about 300 women and men without problems. But as it became clear that there were not enough for everyone, the frustrated crowd overwhelmed the security officers and forced the gate. RAWA could hardly distribute the rest of the quilts and decided to give away most of the remaining ones to non coupon holders.
